My husband is at Palmer. We are done in 2 yrs. Is it a safe career to say, hey we are moving here and I can start a practice that has lots of other chiro's and still make a living? the student loans scare me. We will owe 150k by the time he is done. He wants to move to Boise and I'm thinking there is already a lot of Chiro's there and not that many poeple. What do you think? we are in our 40's and its late for us.

I'm a massage therapist that works for a chiropractor and I know that the insurance companies give him the run around, he sends the bill and they decide what treatments they will pay for, how much they will pay, sometimes they don't pay at all then he has to bill the patient, and then a lot of them don't pay. It takes a long time to build a steady clientele too. And it takes a lot of educating the patients too, getting them involved it their health care. People want to be healed fast, some don't have the patience for treatments 2-3 times a week, they get frustrated and stop coming, go to an MD and get a pill to "fix" their pain.

Is any career "safe"? No. Chiropractic is still in the field of "alternative medicine", times are changing, though slowly. It will take a lot of hard work, long days, weekends, lots of community involvement to get his name out there but if he is good, the business will come. Good luck!

Listen, if you read every word of this you will either be very successful at chiropractic. There's a lot of negativity out there and a lot of guru's and wannbe guru's that will tell you many things to scare you but if you really believe that you can help others and choose to do it through chiropractic, then here's the ultimate blueprint for you.

But first, let me tell you what I've done to back up my claims.

I'm 28 and have financially retired from practice. I still practice one and half days a week and practice because I WANT to and not because i HAVE to...big difference.

Chiropractic is a great opportunity however, the bigger opportunity is where it can lead you because as you develop your communication skills and leadership skills, you become a great leader in your community.

So Firstly, focus on the type of practice you want and get clear.

Get a debt reduction plan up but don't focus on it, focus on what numbers you need to make this successful.

Decide what number of patients you want to see and the style of practice you want. Don't mix...it's either crisis or wellness!

And lastly, but most importantly...

MARKETING MARKETING MARKETING

The money is in the MARKETING of the thing and not the DOING of the thing. The more you focus on marketing the quicker you will free yourself.

Trust me, it doens't matter how you live...

You can live in FEAR or you could EMPOWER yourself with knowledge and skills.

Find mentors and successsful chiropractors to model off.

I took many chiropractors to lunch when I was a student and many obliged which was great and many paid for lunch too which is a sign of there success. One made me pay and he's no longer a chiropractor...

Success breeds success...focus on it and follow through.

Don't accept insurance...or keep it minimal.

Cash practice is the best way.

I have a lot of experience with this. First see webpage below to see my experience with chiropractors. Also it tells about a special kind of practice that is somewhat rare. Only 2 of them in Phila area.

Lots have neck and back problems from accidents. Beyond that it is good business practice. For example learn what is on site below and you can advertise in phone book "GENTLE NO PRESSURE ADJUSTMENTS." Like me, a friend has seen many chiros and some are very rough.

Also one guy sends health newsletters to patient offering free first time adjustment to their friends to get patients. You can put coupons in newspapers. One guy writes article/ads for health.

Now if you try to be an MD in AZ you will have trouble since so many are into natural drug-free health. That is how the country is moving--away from drugs like Vioxx which could treat back problems since it killed pain.

Here is what you do. Make it your mission to get all the people in your area free of back and neck pain and your business will thrive. Get the word out to people that you want to help them.

Well i'm a licensed Chiro in Canada, but non-practicing. It appears that the profession is on a decline due to the oversupply of non-ethical, subluxation-based chiros who promote their practices through fear and ignorance. A large number of my graduating class (year 2002) have actually quit the profession, and most work ancillary jobs to make ends meet. For more comprehensive look review:
